El País publishes an extensive interview with the adjunct director of IRB Barcelona, Joan Massagué. Using metaphors, Massagué explains how a tumour forms and the mechanisms by which we can counteract this process. During the interview he also comments on the present state of research in Spain, emphasizing the cuts in funding. Joan Massagué warns that “Building something is difficult, destroying it is very easy, reconstructing it is almost impossible”.
