In the context of the new cuts in the budget, the platform Science Business has devoted a long article to the structure of the Spanish science system. The different types of institutions, funding sources and the cuts are the main topics covered by article, which includes contributions from some of the most visible faces in Spanish science, such as Luis Serrano, coordinator of the CRG Systems Biology Programme, Mariano Barbacid, director of CNIO, and Joan J. Guinovart, director of IRB Barcelona. "There are too many different programmes to which scientists can apply to get funds: Every new government sets up its own programmes to add to the previous ones. But money could be more useful if it were more concentrated" says Guinovart.
