The PCB is organizing the 13th edition of the "Live Research" Fair with the participation of research centres from all Catalonia.

IRB Barcelona is participating once again in this event through a workshop on “Finding new uses for existing drugs”.

From 8 to 11 April, the PCB (Parc Científic de Barcelona) is organizing the 13th edition of the "Live Research" Fair, where scientists from various research centres from around Catalonia move part of their labs to the CosmoCaixa Barcelona museum. In this fair, citizens can find out about the research done in these centres and tackle questions using the scientific method.

The Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) has taken part in this fair every year since 2006. This year it will be giving a workshop entitled “Finding new uses for existing drugs”, run by the scientists Ignacio Castrillón, Hilda Yuliana Enciso, Montserrat Romero and Paula Martínez, from the Complex Metabolic Diseases and Mitochondria Laboratory, and Arturo Rodríguez-Banqueri, alumnus of the institute.

They will explain their studies on the search for anti-diabetic and anti-obesity properties of existing drugs for the treatment of other diseases. In addition, these researchers have prepared activities in which the public will be able to investigate diabetes and obesity using molecular biology techniques.

The "Live Research" Fair has a double objective: to foster dialogue between the public and researchers and to promote scientific vocation among young people. This year the fair has the support of Obra Social “la Caixa” (“la Caixa” Welfare Projects) and the City Council of Barcelona.
