A scientific outreach day tailored for older adults
One of the main research lines at IRB Barcelona is aging. Scientific advances are making steady progress, but a persistent challenge remains: older adults are often left out of many scientific outreach activities, despite being the ones who could benefit most from knowing how research in this field is progressing.
To bring science closer to this audience, together with the association Més que Ciència and with the support of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), we launched "Immersive Science: Discover Ageing from Within”, a programme that combines educational talks with a virtual reality experience that allows participants to virtually visit the institute's laboratories and see how its researchers work.
Scientific curiosity has no age
During the various sessions, where we visited different senior associations and groups alongside an expert in ageing science, attendees were able to ask questions, share experiences, and discover firsthand how biomedical research contributes to understanding this process.
To wrap up each session, participants enjoy an immersive virtual reality experience that allows them to virtually step inside the IRB Barcelona laboratories and get a close look at the spaces, technologies, and daily work of the people who make this research possible.
