Jordi Casanova, head of the Development and Morphogenesis in Drosophila Lab at IRB Barcelona and professor at CSIC, has published an opinion article in EMBO Reports entitled "Biology, a science of greys". The author says that models and categories are useful tools for research in biology but do not necessarily represent reality. The author believes that, to better understand the complexity of life and avoid meaningless controversies, scientists should be more aware of the limitations of such models and categories.
