The only one of its kind in Spain, the Master offers practical training in experimental research in various disciplines at centers of excellence including IRB Barcelona.

The Master Multidisciplinary Research in Experimental Sciences, a joint academic programme between the Department of Experimental and Health Sciences of the Pompeu Fabra University (DCEXS, UPF) and the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST - CRG, IBEC, ICFO, ICIQ, ICN2, IFAE, IRB Barcelona) officially kicks off today, 12 September,  with a ceremony to welcome its first 14 students to the program.

The Master is the only one of its kind in Spain, and is oriented to equip students with the skills that guarantee incorporation into a research career in an increasingly complex and competitive environment. It emphasizes the importance of research and its multidisciplinary nature, which is evidenced especially – but not only – in the participation of each student in two research projects in different disciplines.

IRB Barcelona students and projects

The two students joining IRB Barcelona's scientific community are:

Anna Bartomeu (b. Viladecans, Barcelona, 1995) is joining the Translational Control of Cell Cycle and Differentiation Laboratory, headed by ICREA Research Professor Raúl Méndez. She will be participating in the project "Gene expression (re)programming by the CPEB-family of RNAbinding proteins". Anna holds a degree in Biomedical Sciences from  the University of Barcelona.

Inés Marín (b. Seville, 1995) studied Biomedicine at the University of Sevilla. She will be joining the Stem Cell and Cancer Laboratory, which is headed by ICREA Research Professor Salvador Aznar-Benitah, and will be involved in the project "Impact of diet on stem cell homeostasis and transformation."

These two students will be joining IRB Barcelona to gain training in experiment methodology. Furthermore, they will receive instruction on cross-curricular subjects, such as statistics and imaging sciences, responsible research, and scientific communication. They will also have the opportunity to participate in seminars and workshops on advanced research techniques given by top local and international researchers and specialists.
